Road Mapping

Last week we formed our team and got all of the team infrastructure in place. So this week we focused on getting the road mapping done and out of the way so that next week we can hit the ground running. We made good use of the whiteboards in the room for this process. We started by creating a list of all the elements we wanted in the game. Then we assigned them numbers based on how essential they were to the game experience. Things such as a Player Controller were given a 0 for essential while things like sound effects were given a 3 for nice, but not the highest priority.

After compiling this list we took the elements on it and created larger goals for the teams from them. For instance we combined player movement, camera control, a health system, and a couple of other small items into the 'Player' goal. This will allow us to have the team focus on one or two major features at once and properly utilize the trello. The road mapping took most of the class period but the time is well worth it as we now have a solid vision for what needs to be done on the project. We also took our whiteboard roadmap and transformed it into task for our trello.

Our large goals and what features/work each requires
Our goals transferred over to Trello. We are gearing up to work on the player and the environment first.
We also discussed the basic plan for the layout of the backyard and some of the assets that would be required for it. This gave Steven somewhere to start as he worked on white boxing the environment. My job for the week was to start working on the GDD. While it is a living document and doesn't need to be extensive right off the bat, there is still enough information to include that will give the team somewhere to start. I filled in all the definite information I had and left space where I know the design team will be adding more. Whenever people have asked me questions on elements not found in the GDD, I make sure to add the information to the GDD as well. With all the basic planning out of the way we should be ready to start getting work done next week!
